The Passage of Time

“Spring passes and one remembers one’s innocence.
Summer passes and one remembers one’s exuberance.
Autumn passes and one remembers one’s reverence.
Winter passes and one remembers one’s perseverance.”
– Yoko Ono –

At 40 people seem to start complaining about getting old, and at 70 there is a tendency to think that, if they are lucky, have only another ten years to live. We are guilty of thinking ourselves old. Every single thought we have holds the energy and power to transform our lives. We have the power to choose our thoughts, and in doing so we shape our lives.

All our thoughts, intentional or not, help to create the life we have. In numerous scientific studies the placebo effect has proven that our beliefs are powerful, even when these beliefs are wrong. Yet, we often cling to our beliefs in an effort to justify our choices, instead of throwing our the ones that do not serve us anymore. Life is fluid and ever-changing. Why not flow and change with it? Discover new possibilities and opportunities for all the different seasons of aging, without defining yourself solely by your age. Engage in a daily yoga practice to ensure fluidity in the body and mind, and above all do not allow the limiting beliefs of others to hijack yours or dictate the way you live or enjoy your life.
